The new Chairman of the International Inverstors Association, YASED, the most important representative in Turkey of the world’s leading international investors, was elected on Wednesday 2 March 2011. İzzet Karaca, the CEO of Unilever Turkey, became YASED’s new Chairman.
The International Investors Association, YASED, held its 30th Annual General Assembly at Istanbul Tekfen Tower on Thursday 24 February 2011. A new Board of Directors was elected at the meeting, and the new Board gathered on Wednesday 2 March 2011 to elect YASED’s new Chairman. Chosen to serve as YASED Chairman of the Board of Directors for the next 2 years, İzzet Karaca has officially assumed his duties.
The results of the election, in which YASED Chairman of the Board of Directors for the last 2 years Piraye Antika was not a candidate, saw 8 names of the 15-member Board of Directors remain unchanged and 7 new names added. The new Board Members are İzzet Karaca (Unilever Sanayi ve Ticaret Türk A.Ş.), Bülent Adanır (Akbank T.A.Ş.), Güldem Berkman (Novartis Sağlık Gıda ve Tarım Ürün. San. ve Tic. A.Ş.), Akın Kozanoğlu (Ergo Grubu Holding A.Ş.), Galya Frayman Molinas (Coca-Cola Meşrubat Paz. Dan. San. ve Tic. A.Ş.), Can Suphi (BP Petrolleri A.Ş.), Serpil Timuray (Vodafone Telekomünikasyon A.Ş.).
Talking about the election, YASED Chairman İzzet Karaca said, “YASED is host to Turkey’s biggest 200 international investors and is an association which has always provided crucial services. I am happy and excited to be the Chairman of the Board of such an important association. We have a very strong Board of Directors, and we will work together on both Turkey’s progress and its investment and business environment.”
Izzet Karaca was born in Istanbul in 1954, after graduating from Robert College Industrial Engineering; BSc ’77 he worked for Koç Holding R&D Department as Project Manager until 1985. Between 1985-1988 he worked as System Organisation Department Manager for Otosan.
In 1988, he joined Unilever and worked for Unilever International Audit in Germany as Group Manager until 1991. In 1991 he worked for 6 months in two Lever Europe projects in Portugal and Belgium. From 1991 to 1994 he worked as Lever Europe Personal Wash Category Logistics Manager, Logistics & Commercial Manager in Lever Germany and Manhaim Factory Commercial Manager.
In 1994, he was appointed as Commercial Director for the Ice Cream business, Algida Turkey. In 1997, he moved to Riga/Latvia as Managing Director. In 1998, he returned Turkey as Managing Director of Algida.
Since 2002 Karaca is the Chairman of Unilever Turkey and in 2009 additional to his current position he was appointed as Executive Vice President of Unilever Asia, Africa and Central & Eastern Europe region and responsible of 12 countries in the region. Karaca is also member of Unilever CEO Forum which consists of Global Vice Presidents of Unilever.
