Seminar on the New Turkish Commercial Draft Code, April 3, 2008

The new “Turkish Commercial Draft Code”, which is expected to pass the Parliament soon, is prone to bring about significant regulatory changes. YASED and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) organized a breakfast seminar on 3 April 2008 at Swissotel, with the objective to convey the companies the changes and the improvements the Draft Code has introduced for the commercial companies. In addition to the explanations given by speakers, namely Gökhan Yüksel, Fikret Sebilcioğlu and Nilgün Serdar from PWC, YASED Chairman Tahir Uysal made an overall evaluation at the meeting and PWC Tax Department Partner Faruk Sabuncu gave a short opening address.

In our age, where adaptation of transparency and corporate structure themes into business life is a necessity, configuration of commercial laws open to contemporary norms and concepts, carries a great importance. The seminar focused on the liabilities of company executives and shareholders and the new rules introduced by the new Turkish Commercial Draft Code concerning auditing and financial reporting, and the issues involving the compliance of commercial companies to international standards and legislation.

Regarding the improvement of the investment environment, ease of doing business and corporate management methods, as YASED, we are aware of the fact that the studies on the Turkish Commercial Code are significant for our members and the whole business world; therefore, we expect that the Draft Code will enter into force as soon as possible. We take this opportunity to thank once more the valuable experts of PWC and our members, who participated in the seminar.
